Medicare Supplement Plans
Medicare is the most significant payer of healthcare in the United States. More than 42 million U.S. citizens take advantage of Medicare coverage every year. Most Medicare beneficiaries are older than 65 years of age, and many people under the age of 65 can qualify for Medicare as a result of a disability. Medicare supplement plans are not intended to replace Medicare as the main source of health care coverage for elderly Americans. Rather, they are a supplement to Medicare coverage — it is an extra source of healthcare coverage should Medicare not cover all of a person’s medical expenses. Although Medicare remains the primary source of security for healthcare needs, Medicare supplement policies reinforce this by adding additional security to that which Medicare provides.
